The Vows

December 10, 2009 by Roxy

Just typing these up got me teary-eyed again.

Roxy’s: Jordan, I love you. I love the way you smile and the way you make me laugh. I love the way you can kiss away my tears and hug away my fears. You have been there for some of my best days and some of my worst days. I want you beside me for the rest of my days.

I vow to stand beside you in friendship, behind you in support, and in front of you in protection. I promise to love and cherish you and always remind you of how much I love you.

Jordan’s: I’ve been thinking a lot about when we first got together. I had just graduated and you were in Wisconsin and while I thought I would visit you a few times over the summer I wound up making the nine-hour round-trip weekend after weekend. What I remember most about those visits, apart from the time I spent with you, was the drive up, and the feeling of joyful anticipation. Just four hours until I get to see Roxy. Just three hours.

And five years later, every time we’re apart the drive back to you still feels exactly the same. It’s as strong as it was five years ago and I know it will be as strong five, ten, and fifty years from now.

It’s been a really hard year, but we got through it because we were together. We have a lot of great years ahead of us, but we’re going to have a few hard ones too, like everyone does. But when I’m with you I feel like I can weather any setback and meet any challenge.

Even in difficult times our relationship has always seemed easy. But I’m not so naive as to think it will always be easy. My vow to you is that I will always try. I promise that when I’m frustrated or when I’m scared I’ll never look for the easy way out. When things feel easy I won’t settle for contentment. And when life is hard I won’t settle for “happy enough.” I vow that I will always strive to make you happier, to love you more, and to be the husband that you deserve.

We’re married!

I’m so sorry everyone! I don’t mean to go so long but life keeps happening. The important news would of course be that we are married! Pictures can be found here, and hopefully that will tide you over for now.

Less Than 2 Weeks Already?

August 18, 2009 by Roxy

I don’t know how some bloggers manage to post every day. I have a hard time posting once a week! Last Thursday we met with our officiant for a little bit, and last Friday I tried on my dress with the veil and hair. I didn’t want to take it off again, but they convinced me. :-)

Friday Jordan picked up our marriage certificate as well! Aside from the food we have to pick up closer to the date that should be done and our beverages are mostly taken care of too. We still need to get all our serving dishes but otherwise we seem to be in good shape there as well. Everything is coming together, though maybe not always as easily as I’d like.

17 Days!

Saturday I made a trip to JC Penny since I hadn’t received the dress from Missouri yet. Turns out whoever rang up the dress did not do it correctly. They rang it up as a regular sale as if I was in the store and not as a send. I have no idea if it was sent to me, but we were lucky enough to find another store that could do a proper send (I hope). Now I have to see if the JC Penny card I got (and was informed I didn’t actually need) ends up with a credit since I already paid it off. If the new dress doesn’t show up by Friday I’ll be going back again.

I really thought getting department store dresses would be easier than this, but I am incredibly grateful to the ladies who took time to help me for hours last time and helped me again this time despite the fact that they were extra busy with the tax-free weekend.

Yesterday we applied for our Iowa marriage license. We hadn’t realized we might need a witness to get the license until we were on the way there, but a friend came to our rescue so we didn’t have to make another trip. We get to pick it up on Friday!

Friday will hopefully also result in me wearing my full attire for the first time. Jordan’s mom is bringing down the veil and my friend will be there to do my hair, so I may as well put the ensemble together!

Aside from that, it’s been miscellaneous small things, like figuring out our ceremony program, sending out our rehearsal invites, and locking down times for everything. As the day gets closer I’m finding myself less stressed out about everything, which I hope is a good thing. (Jordan’s hoping it doesn’t mean I’m headed for a major breakdown just before the wedding or something.) I’m just more happy than stressed right now, and when I think about marrying Jordan the stress seems to melt away, at least temporarily.

What a Weekend! – Sunday

August 4, 2009 by Roxy

Sunday we took it a little bit easier, but spent a lot more. It was Sam’s Club day, so we met up with a couple friends and set off in the late afternoon. We managed to get most of our table settings, most of our champagne, and most of our non-perishables for the reception. Most of what we spent was of course on the alcoholic beverages, pictured below.

Mostly champagne, with a bit of "girly beer"

Surprisingly, we got everything to fit in the trunk and didn’t even squish the chips. We still have a lot of food and beverage to buy, but it’s good to get some of it taken care of. It’s also nice to see the list of things to do keep shrinking, slowly as that may be.
