Less Than 2 Weeks Already?

August 18, 2009 by Roxy

I don’t know how some bloggers manage to post every day. I have a hard time posting once a week! Last Thursday we met with our officiant for a little bit, and last Friday I tried on my dress with the veil and hair. I didn’t want to take it off again, but they convinced me. :-)

Friday Jordan picked up our marriage certificate as well! Aside from the food we have to pick up closer to the date that should be done and our beverages are mostly taken care of too. We still need to get all our serving dishes but otherwise we seem to be in good shape there as well. Everything is coming together, though maybe not always as easily as I’d like.

17 Days!

Saturday I made a trip to JC Penny since I hadn’t received the dress from Missouri yet. Turns out whoever rang up the dress did not do it correctly. They rang it up as a regular sale as if I was in the store and not as a send. I have no idea if it was sent to me, but we were lucky enough to find another store that could do a proper send (I hope). Now I have to see if the JC Penny card I got (and was informed I didn’t actually need) ends up with a credit since I already paid it off. If the new dress doesn’t show up by Friday I’ll be going back again.

I really thought getting department store dresses would be easier than this, but I am incredibly grateful to the ladies who took time to help me for hours last time and helped me again this time despite the fact that they were extra busy with the tax-free weekend.

Yesterday we applied for our Iowa marriage license. We hadn’t realized we might need a witness to get the license until we were on the way there, but a friend came to our rescue so we didn’t have to make another trip. We get to pick it up on Friday!

Friday will hopefully also result in me wearing my full attire for the first time. Jordan’s mom is bringing down the veil and my friend will be there to do my hair, so I may as well put the ensemble together!

Aside from that, it’s been miscellaneous small things, like figuring out our ceremony program, sending out our rehearsal invites, and locking down times for everything. As the day gets closer I’m finding myself less stressed out about everything, which I hope is a good thing. (Jordan’s hoping it doesn’t mean I’m headed for a major breakdown just before the wedding or something.) I’m just more happy than stressed right now, and when I think about marrying Jordan the stress seems to melt away, at least temporarily.

What a Weekend! – Sunday

Sunday we took it a little bit easier, but spent a lot more. It was Sam’s Club day, so we met up with a couple friends and set off in the late afternoon. We managed to get most of our table settings, most of our champagne, and most of our non-perishables for the reception. Most of what we spent was of course on the alcoholic beverages, pictured below.

Mostly champagne, with a bit of "girly beer"

Surprisingly, we got everything to fit in the trunk and didn’t even squish the chips. We still have a lot of food and beverage to buy, but it’s good to get some of it taken care of. It’s also nice to see the list of things to do keep shrinking, slowly as that may be.

What a Weekend! – Saturday

Saturday I was out the door a little before ten and running around doing wedding shopping and decision-making until dinner. First was a trip to the Farmer’s Market, where Nicole and I looked at flowers. Then I met up with Jordan for lunch while we made our game plan for the rest of the day. After that it was off to thrift stores, craft stores and department stores, Big Ten Rentals, Old Chicago and more!

Around five we began part two of the dress hunt in earnest. You see, we found a new dress at JC Penny that was on sale, but apparently it was an extra 15% off through Saturday only and my sister was at the store by her but they didn’t have her size, nor could they get it from the warehouse for her for some reason. Since we were out doing wedding stuff anyhow, and we were less than five minutes from JC Penny, I offered to check the store by me.

On the way it was also determined I’d check for two of the other bridesmaids sizes as well. I arrived to find one dress on the rack that fit the bill, but was told that the other two could be ordered from the warehouse. Of course it wasn’t until I had paid and the receipt was printed that it showed both sizes were on backorder, meaning they might not show up until the day before the wedding! After the dress luck I’d been having this did not seem like a good idea, so the nice ladies at JC Penny began the search for stores with the correct sizes in stock, which could be shipped sooner than the backorder dresses would arrive.

The three saleswomen helped us for nearly two hours while we tracked down the dresses. One bridesmaid drove over an hour to get to a store she knew had her size and arrived five minutes before they closed. Another had seen the correct size for my sister at the store near her only hours before so we called to confirm it was still there and got it ordered to ship. In order to get it shipped from the store I had to sign up for a JC Penny card, but it did get me an extra 10% off, which made up for the shipping charge. By the time we left the store and went to a nearby restaurant for dinner it was nearly eight!
